The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) is bundling its local battery activities within the initiative "Battery Cell Manufacturing Germany".
In addition to technical innovation, the focus is primarily on the highest standards of data-security, sustainability and climate friendliness. In particular, R&D projects in the field of battery production technologies and battery recycling, sustainability and digitalization are being promoted and funded. In addition, the focus is on qualification measures. Further aim is to support efficient and innovative solutions for planning and coordinating professional qualification for tasks along the battery value chain and to implement appropriate training measures.
German companies are direct partners in both Battery IPCEIs: Five projects are part of IPCEI on Batteries and nine are working in IPCEI EuBatIn, which is coordinated by Germany. The accompanying measures of the funding agency VDI/VDE-IT comprise more than 100 partners from the industrial and academic sector, R&D institutions and cluster organizations.
