Measuring the Pulse of the Battery Industry – The Battery Sentiment Index 2025 by the Institute for Innovation and Technology (iit)
The Institute for Innovation and Technology (iit) measures the framework conditions for the battery industry in Germany with the Battery Sentiment Index. The index is based on a comprehensive expert survey: In addition to assessing the current state of technology and infrastructure, battery stakeholders from the DACH region evaluated the political and regulatory framework, current market conditions and potential, as well as the availability of skilled workers and existing cooperation structures.
The aim of the Battery Sentiment Index is to make the current status and progress of the German battery industry visible.
Battery technologies are perceived as strategic key technologies with very high market potential: Around 81 percent of experts surveyed for the Battery Sentiment Index 2025 rate the market potential of battery technologies for Germany as high or even very high. Respondents see particularly strong potential in the mobility and energy sectors, as well as in the fields of security and defense. However, the experts also identify significant room for improvement in the framework conditions—especially in the political and regulatory environment.
