The discussion will feature brief roundtables on the following topics:
- The Battery Passport Strategy of the Global Battery Alliance
- The Role of the Battery Passport in the upcoming EU Battery Regulation
- Creating the Data backbone - Catena X
- Towards a data-driven circular economy
- The European industrial perspective on the Battery Passport
Battery-electric mobility will be the core technology for road transport of people and goods in the decades to come. To fully redeem on its vast potential of climate protection and to advance social sustainability, it is imperative that social and environmental conditions along the battery value chain be controlled and ensured. Sustainability parameters must be made measurable and traceable, relevant data must be stored safely and reliably, and secure data exchange must be facilitated among the business actors.
To achieve such a transparent and trusted shared-data ecosystem, the Battery Passport has been proposed as a centrepiece digital tool. The newly proposed EU battery regulation will advance this concept further, thus paving the way towards social and environmental sustainability facilitated by transparency, labelling and benchmarking.
During the virtual panel discussion, dedicated experts will discuss the challenges of data handling in circular economies and debate key statements regarding data governance, using the example of the proposed Battery Passport.
The panel will be hosted by the Parliamentary State Secretary Michael Kellner with the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The aim of the roundtable is to reach consensus in a "common declaration", which will be fed into further discussions around the globe.
