In this Battery Live Talk, moderator Linda Arnold-Triangeli, VDI/VDE-IT, will investigate with her guests Christine Schmidt, ibbf, and Franz Geyer, BMW Group, the status quo of workforce demand and qualification needs in the battery ecosystem. As Europe seeks to build a competitive, sustainable battery production and value chain, the demand for skilled workers has to be met. However, geopolitical and economic challenges, have led to stalled progress and even investment pullbacks, leaving many questions.

The transition to electric mobility is permanently changing workplaces, qualification requirements, and regional economic structures. The automotive industry is particularly affected, facing job losses, retraining needs, and questions of social acceptance. How can we not only manage this transformation, but actively and positively shape it?

What will be discussed?

  • Where do we stand today with regard to workforce demand in light of the economic and geopolitical challenges facing Europe’s battery industry?
  • How can companies and policymakers (re)act to these challenges?
  • How can we ensure a transition of workers from traditional industries to green sectors like battery production, given the changing landscape and what qualifications are needed to support Europe's competitiveness?

The Battery Live Talk is part of an exciting live stage programme on Battery Cell Production at the Hannover Messe industry fair from 31 March to 04 April 2025 in Hannover, Germany, and online.
